I would say I'm just another millennial on the hunt for the best taco joint to satisfy my stomach and my Instagram, except - I have a really expensive piece of paper that says I have the creative and analytical intelligence to design spaces, products and furniture. And that's worth bragging about.... (seriously, if I'm going to be paying for it for the next 10 years, I will be talking about it for the next 20, okay?) I’ve always been intrigued by design and creative problem solving, so it was pretty amazing when I found a degree (Interior Architecture & Product Design) that exposed me to such a variety of opportunities. I grew up with constant engagements and little-to-no free time. I know that thinking "I'm always busy" is a common mindset however, in high school I was on a club swim team, and still participated in high school athletics, aka my day was jam packed from 5:00am to 8:00pm. Homework had to be completed in the 45 minute study hall I had at the end of the day. Sooooo basically I grew up knowing how to hit a deadline, and never also sitting still.
In college, though I started off with less obligations- free time was not something I knew how to handle. I enrolled in multiple design studios, joined our campus Greek life, joined some clubs, and got a job! Honestly.. it rocked! I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything. *que the violins*
I take pride in the work that I do, whether that be designing a float for my sorority, a "bubble machine" for AIAS, or a 250 page thesis book for my Masters or a piece of furniture in a wood shop, because I know that I've worked hard, and done my best... anything less, really isn't an option.
